SAP has flagged the launch of a new cloud-based analytics offering in Q4, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
Known internally as Project Orca, the new offering will provide “the technology businesses need to harness data for decisions about their operations, from behind-the-scenes number crunching to web-friendly data graphs for corporate workers”, Steve Lucas, president of platform solutions, SAP, told the WSJ.
SAP said its new software will be different from competitor offerings in enabling enterprises to bring diverse information together and identify trends through mash-ups of data.
“That to me is more than visualisation of data,” said Lucas.
According to other reports, the offering will be built natively on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, and delivered in an scalable multi-tenant environment.
Lucas said that the new product will not replace any of SAP’s existing on-premise or cloud-based analytics tools.
