Malaysia progresses towards big data analytics goal

ASEAN Data Analytics Exchange

Malaysian government agency, Multimedia Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (MdeC), will launch a regional data analytics exchange platform this year, in a bid to help Malaysia become the ASEAN hub for big data analytics by 2020.

The ASEAN Data Analytics Exchange (ADAX) platform will launch in the third quarter of 2016, and will not only showcase advanced data analytics use cases, but also provide a co-working location for start-ups and accelerators.

“The ADAX is a regional platform to connect community, enterprises, startups, academia and working professionals in a central location to inspire and enable organisations to embrace data-driven innovation,” said Dr Karl Ng Kah Hou, innovation capital division director, MDeC.

The focus for MDeC’s efforts in this area will be on smoothing the path to adoption of big data analytics technologies.

“We already have the leading ecosystem when it comes to technological infrastructure in ASEAN, and the focus for this year is adoption,” Ng said.

MDeC has also partnered with Asia Online Publishing Group to launch the ‘Big Community’ portal, as a one-stop online resource for businesses to learn about big data analytics and its applications, and is working to build jobs in the sector through collaborations with universities.
